Congressman John Shimkus says people with a state permit to carry a concealed weapon should be allowed to carry their guns in other states.
Shimkus co-sponsored the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, or H-R 38. It says people authorized to carry a concealed weapon in their home state can do so in any other state --- even if that state’s concealed-carry law is stricter.

The Collinsville Republican wants a concealed carry gun permit to be recognized like a drivers’ license.
The bill does not establish a federal permit registry. Shimkus also says the bill does not regulate how the states issue concealed carry permits, and it mandates that gun carriers obey the concealed carry laws of the state or locality they’re in.
The House passed the measure last week on a vote of 231-198. It now goes to the Senate.
