President Donald Trump delivers his first State of the Union address Tuesday night.
Collinsville republican U.S. Representative John Shimkus says he hopes the unpredictable president will focus on the policy issues at hand and deliver a more traditional speech.
"Respectful to both the office he serves in and the office of the other two branches because you're going to have the Supreme Court there, you're going to have the legislative branch there."
Shimkus says he hopes the president talks about infrastructure.
"You've seen what's gone on in the Marion area and what we would hope to get better access to Carbondale with infrastructure. The question is, of course, how are you going to pay for this? Maybe he will present something."
Shimkus says the outline presented to lawmakers shows President Trump also plans to touch on Immigration; Trade; National Security and the Economy.
The president's State of the Union address is scheduled for tonight 8 p.m. It will be broadcast on WSIU Radio and television and streamed here at wsiunews.org.
