Updated: Driver in Fatal Williamson Co. Crash Faces Drug Related Charge

The driver of a car ticketed for failure to yield right of way in a fatal crash Wednesday in Williamson County now faces a drug-related charge.

Illinois State Police say 20-year old Jeremy McGee has been formally charged with possession of between 2.5 and 10 grams of cannabis. Additional charges are possible.
Thirty-one-year-old David Lyerla of Marion was killed in the crash around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on Route 13 east bound at Samuel Road. Four other people were injured - some seriously. In addition to McGee, the injured were 41-year-old Keri Clark of Carterville, 20-year-old Tommi Burnett-Minor of Marion and a three month old baby. State Police said Thursday that a two-year-old boy in one of the vehicles was uninjured.

The collision caused an extensive cleanup that closed the intersection for about four hours Wednesday afternoon.

A Marion man is dead, and a portion of Route 13 in Williamson County was closed for about four hours Wednesday afternoon after a fatal traffic crash.

Illinois State Police say 31-year old David Lyerla of Marion was killed in the crash, and four other people were injured - some seriously.

Troopers say the Chevy Impala traveling south on Samuel Road pulled into the path of a Chevy Tahoe heading east on Route 13. The collision caused an extensive cleanup at the intersection.

The driver of the Tahoe, 41-year-old Keri Clark of Carterville, sustained major injuries. So did the Impala's driver, 20-year old Jeremy McGee, and a three-month old in his car. 20-year old Tommi Burnett received what police call "non-life-threatening injuries."

McGee was ticketed for failure to yield right of way at an intersection with the possibility of additional charges, pending an investigation.

IL State Police report a 31-year old man died from injuries he received in a two vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon on IL Route-13 in Williamson County. The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of family. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was a passenger in 2005 Chevy sedan. Police say the car was southbound on Samuel Road when it crossed the west bound lanes of Route-13 and pulled into the path of an eastbound 2008 Chevy SUV. The SUV hit the car on the passenger side.

Both vehicles received major damage. Police say the driver of the SUV is 41-year old Keri Clark of Carterville. She was taken to a local hospital with major injuries. State Police say a 20-year old male was driving the car. He was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Two other passengers in the car were also injured; a 20-year old female and a 3-month old male.

The eastbound lanes of IL Route-13 were shut down for about four hours.  The accident happened about 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.
