Unity Point School Year Starts After Delay From Mold Issues

Unity Point School year began Wednesday after a delay from mold issues.

During the July 4th holiday two HVAC units failed causing mold to form in over 30 rooms.

The mold was discovered on July 8th  when employees returned to work.

Contracted professionals started right away working 7 days a week testing the air and cleaning the rooms to prepare for the school year.

Dean of Students Mary Beth Goff says the cleaning process was a big undertaking.

“It was a process of going into the classrooms, checking the items, cleaning the items, going back in to check and see if everything was ok, ceiling tiles being replaced and then once the contracted companies were finished in the classrooms then our custodians went in and cleaned and then our teachers were able to go in when that whole entire process was done.”

Last week teachers were able to get back into their rooms to unbox everything and put back in order.

10 days will be added to the end of the school year to make for the delayed start.
