Two Crashes Shut Down I-57 For Several Hours

Patch

A Correctional Officer from the Marion County Sheriff's Department has been killed during a motor vehicle accident.
Illinois State Police say the victim is 22-year-old Adam Conrad of Sandoval.

Troopers say Conrad was driving a Marion County Sheriff's Department prisoner transport van northbound on I-57 south of Mt. Vernon Wednesday morning when he lost control on the slick pavement and the van began to spin. It went into the median before crossing over into the southbound lanes and into the path of a tractor-trailer.

A 17-year-old passenger in Conrad's van was injured. The driver of the semi was not injured.

A Franklin County woman sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 57 in Jefferson County.

Illinois State Police say 37-year-old Kristina Johnson of Whittington was taken to a local hospital.
Troopers say Johnson lost control of her vehicle in the northbound lane of I-57, slid across the median, and into the southbound lanes, colliding with a tractor-trailer.

The semi driver was not injured.

This accident occurred near the fatal accident on I-57. The two crashes closed down the southbound lanes for about six hours.
