Train Derailment Investigation Underway in Franklin Co.

Emergency officials in southern Illinois say there is no public safety threat after a train hauling coal derailed in Franklin County.

Franklin County Emergency Management director Ryan Buckingham says 19 cars of a Burlington-Northern train derailed Sunday afternoon. It happened between the towns of Christopher and Zeigler in a rural area. Buckingham says all but two of the train cars were heavily damaged.

Officials say they're investigating the cause of the derailment.
