On Sunday, September 22nd, a former SIU Athletics Administrator and former Saluki Track athlete are joining forces for the 3rd annual Community Fun and Fitness Relays. This event encourages families and children to come out and compete in a variety of track events including a four by 100 Meter Relay and a variety of sprint dashes. Kathy Jones, former Senior Associate Athletic Director at SIU–C says they are pleased with last year's event, which raised one thousand dollars for the Carbondale I Can Read Program, and the African village of Obo–Kwahu.
That small village is where Marian Appiah Kubi was raised. Kubi came to SIU and ran track and is so thankful for her experience that she wants others in her village to have the same opportunity.
Sunday's event will start at 2:00PM at the SIU Lew Hartzog Track and Complex on the SIU–C Campus.
