A Union County woman's public crusade to reopen the Tamms Correctional Center continues this weekend.
Marsha Griffin says predictably violence has increased in Illinois prisons since the closure of the supermax facility in Alexander County over a year ago.
Griffin will lead a prayer rally this weekend on the prison grounds in Tamms. The Jonesboro school teacher says Governor Pat Quinn needs to show true leadership and reopen the facility.
Griffin has hosted several prayer rallies around southern Illinois to show support for frontline workers. She says it's fitting to bring a rally to the Tamms prison grounds, because this is where her campaign started.
The rally will feature comments from AFSCME officials as well as prayers and music. It will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
