Southern Illinois Primary Results

The Associated Press declared former Jackson County Sheriff Bill Kilquist the democratic nominee in southern Illinois' 115th State House race over Tony Mayville.

In the republican primary Terri Bryant of Murphysboro has also been declared the winner over Jefferson County Board Chairman Bob White.

The democratic nominee for Jefferson County sheriff is Travis Allen.  He defeated incumbent Roger Mulch and Joseph Porter by a 2 to 1 margin.   Mulch finished last in the voting.   In the Republican primary John Lewis advances to the general election.  He defeated John Scott and David Morris.  Lewis finished ahead of Scott by 60-votes. Morris was a distant third.

In Jackson County Sharon Harris Johnson advances to the November election. She defeated Bill Alstat 60% to 40%.

In Franklin County Clerk Democratic primary Karen Kase defeated Beth Williams 57% to 42% to advance to the general election.

In the Johnson County Treasurer republican primary Brent Williams will advance to the General election.  He defeated Roger Giltner Sr and Rebecca Lambert by some 200 votes.

Perry County Sheriff Democratic primary – Incumbent Keith Kellerman leads with 53% of the vote followed by Dennis Cole with 31% and Jerry Speers with 16% with 17 of 27 precincts reporting. In the GOP primary- Steve Baries leads Gale Reidelberger 54% to 45%. 

In Randolph County,  Justin Jeffers will advance to the general election for County Treasurer. He defeated fellow republican Zig Jones 54% to 45% .

In the Randolph county democratic commission race Cindy Jones defeated Ben Picou 61% to 38%   In the Republican primary Ronnie White defeated Bradley Coke 62% to 37%

Sparta home rule past 61% to 38%

Randolph County electricity aggregation vote failed 54% to 45%

Randolph County Retail and Service tax passed 51% to 49%

In other area referenda, the Unity point School Tax  narrowly passed by just four votes, while voters in the neighboring Giant City School District voted down a similar tax increase 63% to 37%.

Voters in Johnson County voted down a non-binding referendum to ban hydraulic fracturing in the county. The vote was 58% "no" and 41% "Yes".
