In 2015, the words budget and progress do not often go together in Illinois government.
But, State Rep. John Bradley says that could be changing ... a little.
The Marion democrat says the governor's office has responded to the House Revenue Committee's questions about state spending in the fiscal year that began July 1.
Bradley says he's eager to dig into the information .
"I'm very encouraged with some level of progress with the questions we asked the governor's office. They replied to the questions we asked in the time frame we had asked. It's a huge amount of information and data and we're going through it, but it was at least a positive step and some level of cooperation we haven't seen in the past."
Bradley stresses the legislature is "not a party" to the spending under authority the governor and comptroller have secured in court. He calls the situation "a constitutional crisis" but is encouraged by the latest cooperation.
The state is on course to spend perhaps $38 billion and take in $32 billion.
