A single engine airplane flipped over on the runway Sunday afternoon at SI Airport in Murphysboro

Southern Illinois Airport officials say there were no injuries after a private single engine airplane flipped over on the runway shortly after landing Sunday afternoon.

The accident happened about 1:30pm.  The pilot and a passenger in the airplane were on board at the time of the accident.  Airport officials say the plane was in route from San Diego.  Several area first responders along with airport emergency crews were initially called to the airport in Murphysboro.    About three hours following the accident a crane safetly removed the airplane from the runway.    The FAA is expected to investigate.
