SIU Carbondale lands in the top 100 safest campuses, according to a new survey from the National Council for Home Safety and Security.
The ranking - at 86 - puts SIUC roughly in the middle of the 10 schools in Illinois that made the list.
The University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, DePaul, Loyola, and DeVry Universities all ranked in the 90s. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Northern Illinois University, Northwestern University, and Illinois State University scored higher.
The Council, which is a trade organization for alarm installers, contractors, and others focused on home safety.
The group studied more than 2,000 four-year institutions for its list, using FBI and National Center for Education statistics.
