Students take part in Polar Bear drinking party in Carbondale January 2012.

There will be a town hall meeting at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Student Health Center on Tuesday about how to reduce the harms of underage drinking.Jason Gillman is the Director of the SIUC Wellness Center.  He says the meeting will be an interesting look at alcohol and they want to hear from the people that are experiencing it.    Gillman says the forum will take a different approach in that it will address the issues of alcohol consumption and underage drinking  from the perspective of bar owners, an employee from a liquor store, a bartender and a resident hall assistant from SIU.

Gillman says the amount of alcohol consumption by SIUC students is consistent with the national average for college communities. Gillman says the town hall meeting will help to emphasize the things that are working in the community.

The meeting will be held in the Student Health Center Auditorium Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The forum is free and open to the public.
