A constituency group at SIU Carbondale is fighting back against a proposal to change the allocation of state funding between the Carbondale and Edwardsville campuses.

The executive council of the SIU Faculty Senate has sent a letter to the SIU Board of Trustees urging members to deny a plan that would give SIU-Edwardsville an additional five-million dollars for Fiscal Year 2019.

Faculty Senate President Ahmad Fakhoury says the organization learned about the plan this week, and with the trustees scheduled to consider it next week, the council's biggest gripe is the short amount of time it has to respond.

"We feel that more time is warranted for us to go and finalize the data to come up with a rebuttal."

Fakhoury says the letter points out the plan would derail SIU's attempt to re-invent itself.

"It's a process that's on going. At this point, the timing of having to also deal with a reallocation of the budget, it cannot be helpful."

Fakhoury says the Faculty Senate hopes to speak at the trustees meeting in Carbondale on Wednesday or Thursday of next week.
