SIU Trustees Move Forward on Presidential Search, Hiring Rules, and Hires

Mar 28, 2019

New hiring rules, guidelines for a Presidential search, and a spirit of collaboration highlighted Southern Illinois University’s Board of Trustees meeting in Springfield this week.

Trustee Chair Phil Gilbert says the hiring changes make search waivers more difficult to get, and are in response to questionable hires in previous administrations.
“Search waivers, I think, in my mind as Chairman, will be used rarely. The Board’s going to be aware of search waivers. It’s going to be transparent. There’s going to be no secrets.”

Trustees also approved the guidelines for the Presidential Search Committee, acknowledging that the process may take a few months longer than planned because of some additional information needed by the search firm and consultants. Gilbert says they hope to have a new system leader by the end of 2019.

Bryan Mullins’ contract as SIUC’s new Men’s Head Basketball Coach was approved, as was a two-year deal for SIUE’s Interim Men’s Head Basketball Coach, Brian Barone.
