SIU Student Dies in Carbondale House Fire

Carbondale firefighters continued to investigate a fatal structure fire that killed one person Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, in the 700 block of West Freeman Street.

Carbondale Police say an SIU student died in an early morning house fire.

City officials say the fire in the 700 block on West Freeman Street was reported at about 4:50am Wednesday.
The house was fully engulfed by fire when crews arrived on the scene.

The victim's body was discovered during a primary search of the home. The victim's identity is not yet being released. An autopsy is pending.

Foul play is not suspected at this time.
