SIU Student Center Offers Breast Cancer Awareness Events

Logo

This month, SIU is kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with several activities. Beth Alongi, assistant director of marketing at the SIU Student Center says the campus wide effort raises scholarship money for students affected by the illness.

"Every year the number goes up on how many students apply for the scholarship and last year we had around 30 applicants."

Last year, they gave five scholarships for $1,250 apiece. Alongi says there are many ways to get involved, including a murder mystery dinner.

"It's a Downton Abbey theme. So, it will be kind of a 1900s to 1920s theme with themed food. We're going to have like an English style dinner and then we're also having a costume contest so people can come dressed up or not. It's going to be a great time."

The dinner is at the Student Center on October 21st. For more information about any of the events this month, go online to StudentCenter.siu.edu/Pink or call 618-453-7103.
