SIUC Police are asking people to be careful after an attack on the west side of campus last Friday.

Investigators say two victims report being approached by three suspects near the corner of Douglas Drive and Oakland Avenue around 4:00am Friday morning. The area is just north of Campus Lake.

The two students, both 19, tell police they were approached by three men on BMX-style bicycles. The suspects sprayed the victims with what is believed to be pepper spray, and then as one victim ran for help the other was beaten during a struggle.

The suspects are described as a Hispanic male wearing light plaid shorts and a tan shirt, a black male in a black Chicago White Sox hat, and another black male. They were last seen heading west on Douglas Drive.

Anyone with information is asked to call Campus Police, and officials are reminding the campus community to use the Brightway Path or other safe services to move about campus after dark.
