The head coach at one of the most successful junior college basketball programs in the nation is taking over as the new leader of the women's basketball program at SIU.
Cindy Stein was announced during an afternoon news conference in Carbondale. Stein leaves Illinois Central College after one season and a 3rd place finish in the National Junior College Division Two Tournament last month. ICC Athletic Director Sue Sinclair says they are grateful to Stein for bringing her outstanding coaching abilities and leadership to their program.
Stein's appointment at SIU comes almost a year to the day of Stein being named head coach at ICC. Stein also spent 12 seasons as the head coach at the University of Missouri where she lead the Tigers to the Sweet 16 in 2001. Stein takes over at SIU for Missy Tiber who resigned in January.
