Southern Illinois UniversityEdwardsville's chancellor is announcing her resignation six weeks after signing a contract extension.

The Belleville News Democrat reports that Chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe's departure was announced in a Monday email to faculty and staff.

She's accepted a job as vice president of instruction at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Wisconsin. Her resignation is effective Aug. 14.

She made numerous contributions to the Edwardsville campus during her tenure. We wish her the best in her future endeavors. ~SIU President Randy Dunn

Furst-Bowe has led SIUE for three years. The board of trustees in May approved a contract extension through 2017 that set her salary at $302,500 a year.

She says the new contract included a clause allowing either side to terminate it.

She says the Chippewa Valley campuses are close to her Wisconsin hometown.

SIU President Randy Dunn says Furst-Bowe has made "numerous contributions" during her tenure.

Jennifer Fuller joined Capitol News Illinois in July 2023 as the organization’s broadcast director. She will oversee the launch and operations of CNI’s new broadcast division.
