SIU's President is calling on everyone to help come up with ways to streamline the university - particularly in tough budget times.
The Carbondale campus is grappling with more than five-million dollars in cuts this semester, after enrollment dipped by nearly 700 students.
In his first 'State of the System' address, President Randy Dunn says he's open to suggestions.
"If you've got an idea for moving forward, for redefining a program, for a way to do things in a more efficient manner, to take on something that can make us stronger, for heaven's sake - tell us."
Dunn says it's up to everyone to turn enrollment and retention around.
"Not just looking at admissions, not just looking at the recruiters on the road, not just looking at the materials that we put out. Not just looking at how a student is greeted when they go into an office. Just not looking at what the city looks like when you drive in from certain parts of it. All of these things are impacting us, and we've got to be about getting to every front, and get this turned around."
Dunn calls the changes that must be made "retrenchment," and says those modifications will likely be a part of the plan for the next several years.
