A book release party will be held Friday evening to celebrate a Southern Illinois University Carbondale graduate's first published book.
Her name is Leslie Conner, and her mystery-thriller is titled 'Devil's Charm'.
The book follows Detective Lexie Garner as she investigates an unusual murder. The unusual case leads Garner to reject traditional police procedures to investigate a paranormal suspect.
Conner says shows like the X-Files and Supernatural influenced her to write a paranormal mystery novel.
Conner says this is the first book out of three released in the Detective Lexie Garner series.
She received her master's degree in English Literature from SIU-C and still lives in southern Illinois with her dog.
The book release party will start at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Longbranch Café in Carbondale.
