The March primary is less than three weeks away.
The latest Paul Simon Public Policy Institute Poll shows Governor Bruce Rauner and Democratic Candidate J-B Pritzker leading their respective parties.
However, Simon Institute visiting Professor Dr. Charlie Leonard says the poll shows Rauner trailing both Pritzker and Senator Daniel Biss by nearly 25 points.
"Once you offer them either Pritzker or Biss, they'd prefer the democrat over the incumbent governor in almost equal term."
Leonard says a lot can still change.
"Well, a lot of things can happen in 3 weeks, especially toward the end of a campaign."
Downstate numbers show Rauner leading both democratic candidates by single-digit margins.
