SIH Cancer Institute Calling for Local Artists to Decorate Building Expansion

A call is going out to local artists and photographers to help inspire hope and healing in the new expansion of the SIH Cancer Institute in Carterville.
The institute system director Jennifer Badiu says they're hosting a zoom event from 5-7 pm Tuesday for those interested in submitting art to get a virtual tour of the expanded space and learn how to move forward.

"You're going to hear from our architects and designers on some of the aspects of what we're looking for from the nature elements and how to submit proposals and their artist statement about who they are, how they get to where their craft is and what's important to them. Then, our art committee will be selecting 52 pieces of art."

Badiu says the goal is to create a space that promotes health and healing.

"I think that the local art really brings a level of comfort and familiarity in a time when things are uncertain. So, if an artist can be a part of that mission and find value in that and wants to do that, we would love to see their submittals."

Badiu says there is no age limit for the artistic proposals.

To join the zoom event, visit the SIH Cancer Institute Facebook page. If you cannot make the event this evening, it will be recorded and posted on the institute's Facebook page.

Entries are due by June 14.
