SIH Breaks Ground on Urgent Care Facility

Southern Illinois Healthcare is bringing an urgent care facility to Marion.

System administrators say the hours of the new facility will work better for working people than traditions primary care locations.

"It’s about convenience and it's about access. For instance, you'll be able to secure a place in line, you will, with an app. You'll be able to use an app to determine what your wait time will be."

That's Senior Vice President of ambulatory and physician services Philip Schaefer. He says the company plans to keep expanding.

"If this project works as we think it will, we will consider doing this elsewhere as well. We have expansion projects going on in Carbondale for our surgery department's right now, same thing in Herrin."

Shaefer also mentioned the potential for a 13 million dollar facility for the SIU school of medicine residency program.

He expects the new urgent care facility in Marion to open by Labor Day.
