A Task Force created to study the cost, feasibility, and environmental impact of a proposed four-lane divided highway between Waterloo and Murphysboro has released its final recommendations.
The Southwest Illinois Connector Task Force recommends building the four-lane highway through Monroe, Randolph, Perry and Jackson counties.
Members concluded providing a safe and efficient highway would create economic development opportunities and improve access to Southern Illinois University Carbondale, the World Shooting Complex, the Kaskaskia Regional Port District, area hospitals and other regional destinations .
