A Carbondale man faces significant prison time after a jury found him guilty of Armed Robbery and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
The Jackson County State's Attorney says 24-year-old Nicholas A.M. Hastings was sentenced to 34 years in prison for Armed Robbery and a concurrent term of 19 years for Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.

In August 2018 near the Carbondale Rebound High School, the shooting victim entered the rear driver seat of a car that his high school classmate was driving. Seated in the front passenger seat was Hastings. He turned to the victim, pointed a gun at him and demanded his property. The victim complied and as the victim was attempting to exit the car, Hastings fired the gun into the side abdomen of the victim.
