The Shawnee School District in Wolf Lake is partnering with a local business to raise money for the displaced and injured Australian animals caught up in the bushfires.

School officials say they will be sending all money raised to the Australia Wildlife Zoo Hospital.
For the month of February, the Shawnee School District is asking for people to send their spare change to the Union County school. Each classroom will have a donation container.

Dyno Nobel -- a commercial explosives manufacturer in Wolf Lake -- will match what the school district raises.

In addition to animals displaced and injured, the World Wildlife Fund in Australia estimates as many as 1.25 billion animals may have been killed directly or indirectly from fires that have scorched Australia.
