Another southern Illinois school district is switching to a remote-only learning model to start the academic year.
Shawnee District 84 in Union County says the decision came out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of the school community. The Shawnee District has had an increase in COVID-19 exposure to its students and staff requiring isolation and/or quarantine. School officials say they are also concerned about the number of increasing positive cases around the area.
Union County remains on the Illinois Department of Public Health warning list.
Shawnee students will be in remote learning through Friday, September 18.
