After a historic freshmen season with the SIU men's basketball team, Marcus Domask is receiving plenty of recognition from the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Waupun, Wisconsin native has been named the MVC Freshman of the Year and the MVC Newcomer of the Year. He joins Kent Williams as the only Salukis to accomplish this feat. He also made 2nd team All Missouri Valley Conference.
Domask becomes the first Saluki men's basketball player to earn 1st or 2nd team all-MVC as a freshman.
Head Coach Bryan Mullins says the honors are well-deserved.
"It's just a credit to his hard work, his maturity, his confidence in himself and also for the guys on the team believing in Marcus and Marcus believing in the guys on the team. A lot of guys created opportunities for him to be successful as well."
Domask's scoring average of just under 14 points per game ranks second all-time at SIU among freshmen behind only Charlie Vaughn in 1959. Domask leads all MVC freshmen in scoring and assists.
The Salukis open MVC tournament play Friday at 2:30 against Bradley.
