A member of the SIU Board of Trustees is stepping down.
Roger Herrin tendered his resignation Thursday. It's effective immediately.
In his resignation letter to Board Chair Randal Thomas, Herrin said he has sold his nursing homes in southern Illinois and plans to spend the majority of his time in Florida.
Herrin said resigning this month also allows Governor Bruce Rauner to find his replacement since the governor is scheduled to make appointments to state university boards in January.
Herrin joined the board nearly six years ago. He was named chairman in 2011 and replaced in 2012 after members said a change in leadership was needed due to friction on the board.
