A statewide program dedicated to restorative justice is launching in Southern Illinois.

Human service provider Arrowleaf is one of 80 participants in the program, with efforts focused on Alexander and Pulaski counties. The R3 program is funded by marijuana sales, with a mission of restorative justice.

CEO Sherrie Crabb said the first step is hiring staff for the program, and says the organization is looking for those already in the area, including those seeking re-entry into the workforce.

“It’s really important that this program is rolled out in an equitable manner and that we are also offering job opportunities within those two counties,” Crabb said.

Once staff is in place, Arrowleaf plans to provide a number of services, including youth development and violence prevention, starting a youth advisory council, social and behavioral skills training groups for students, parenting skills training groups, a violence prevention communication campaign, community block party, and community ambassador scholarships.
