Referenda Results

In addition to municipal posts, school boards, and other positions, voters in the region were deciding several referenda. Here is a list of unofficial results:

Voters in Hardin and Gallatin counties approved 1% retail sales tax increases to help provide additional money to fund local public safety efforts.

Voters in McLeansboro and Kinmundy both voted against prohibiting the retail sale of alcohol within their city limits.

Voters in Harrisburg Tuesday said no to a proposed new High School. 54% of voters rejected an initiative to allow the school district to issue general obligation bonds for the construction, demolition, renovation, and expansion of Harrisburg High School.

In Jefferson County, a school consolidation referendum failed when voters in one of the three impacted communities said no. The consolidation issue failed in the Opdyke-Belle Rive district. Voters in the Dodds and Ina districts said yes, but the measure needed all three districts to vote in favor for it move forward.

Voters in Anna decided against home rule.

Electric Aggregation:

Voters in Baldwin, Evansville, Percy, Prairie Du Rocher, Ellis Grove, and Tilden voted in favor of electricity aggregation - giving residential and small business customers in those communities the option of selecting alternative electricity suppliers.

Voters in the unincorporated areas of Randolph County voted against electricity aggregation.

Citizens of multiple Jackson County communities voted in favor of electric aggregation. Voters in Murphysboro, Desoto, Dowell and Vergennes all approved the measure.

Voters in unincorporated areas of Jefferson County rejected electric aggregation by a vote of 1161 to 1057. However voters the voters throughout the rest of the county approved the referendum. Citizens of Mount Vernon, Bell Rive, Bonnie, Dix, Ina, Waltonville, and Woodlawn all approved the measure for electric aggregation.

The villages of Cutler and St. John both said yes on the electric aggregation referenda item.

Voters in unincorporated Williamson County, Bush, Cambria, Crainville, Creal Springs, Energy, Herrin, Hurst, and Pittsburg all said yes to aggregation.
