Recreational Marijuana Closer to Becoming Legal in Illinois

Images

It looks like recreational marijuana will become legal in Illinois.

The House is sending marijuana legislation to the governor, who has said he will sign it into law.
It lets people 21 and over possess about an ounce of pot and those with a medical marijuana card could grow up to five plants at home. Marijuana would be taxed based on THC amounts and local governments could add their own tax of up to three percent.

It also has a social justice component...expunging prior convictions for small amounts of weed and funneling some of the new revenue to impoverished communities.

Governor JB Pritzker says he will sign the bill into law. It would take effect January 1st.
