Rauner Vows to Keep Murray Center

Republican candidate for governor Bruce Rauner says he supports keeping open a center for people with developmental disabilities in Centralia that his opponent is trying to close.

The Winnetka businessman faces Governor Pat Quinn in the November election. He met with relatives of residents at the Murray Developmental Center on Saturday and told them they should have a choice in their family members' care.

But Quinn campaign spokeswoman Izabela Miltko says Rauner is showing a disregard for how his campaign promises conflict with his promise to cut spending. She says closing outdated institutions saves taxpayer dollars.

Miltko says Quinn made a policy decision to lead Illinois away from being the state that institutionalizes more people with developmental disabilities than any other in the nation. She says the governor wants Illinois to provide more choices and community care options.
