Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says he welcomes a review of all VA medical centers in the state.
An internal VA audit released this week shows nearly 900 veterans have requested appointments at Illinois' Veterans Administration hospitals in the past decade but not received them.
"We need to make sure there were no wrongdoing problems with respect to wait times or any kind of documentation mistakes. This is absolutely a very serious matter. We owe a solemn duty to all of our veterans and our military families. It's very, very important."
Quinn comments came during a bill signing Tuesday in Marion.
The Veterans Affairs Department released findings Monday of a national audit on quality of care and wait times. The audit shows 494 new patients requested an appointment at the VA hospital in Marion, but no appointment was scheduled.
During that same time period the audit shows the Marion VA scheduled a total of 27,300 appointments with an average wait time for new patients of 38 days.
