Police Chase in Mt. Vernon Leads to Two Arrests

Two men are in jail after a police chase Monday night in Jefferson County.

Sheriff's Deputies responded to an address on Park Avenue where shots were reportedly fired at around 8:30 p.m.
When they arrived, a vehicle sped away from the scene and led deputies into Mt. Vernon, where officers flattened the vehicle's tires with stop sticks. The vehicle made a U -turn and rammed one of the squad cars.

Deputies took the driver into custody on numerous charges. He is identified as 20-year-old Kymir McGee of Mt. Vernon.

During the pursuit, a bystander, 28-year-old Justin Smith of Mt. Vernon, threw a trashcan in front of one of the squad cars in an attempt to slow down the deputies. He was later taken into custody.
