Carbondale Police have released statistics from last weekend's Polar Bear event in Carbondale.

Officers say, along with the SIU Department of Public Safety and Illinois State Police, they issued 116 citations to 97 different people. That's down from the 139 citations issued to 129 people during this event last year.
42 of those cited were SIU students; another 25 indicated they were students at another college or university.

90 of the citations were for underage drinking and public possession of alcohol, that's 30 fewer than last year. Another six were for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers say 15 violations occurred inside or outside of licensed liquor establishments during compliance checks.  Of those violations, eight occurred at Pinch Penny Pub and the other seven occurred at Levels.
There were 17 such violations last year.
