One Arrested, Two Others Sought in Deadly Carbondale Shooting

Carbondale Police have arrested a man they believe is connected to a deadly shooting early Sunday morning.

Officers say 21-year-old Dwayne Dunn of St. Louis has been taken into custody and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. The police department is attempting to locate two others, who are believed to be the primary suspects.
The victim has been identified as 41-year-old local musician Timothy Beaty of Carbondale. He was apparently struck by a stray bullet in a neighboring residence. Beaty was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Police responded to the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity house at 402 West Walnut Street. The university website indicated the fraternity is currently on suspension. When officers arrived, they found a very large party occurring and multiple people leaving the scene. The investigation into the incident revealed that a physical altercation took place inside the residence and shots were fired. Then, the altercation moved outside where more shots were fired.

One person received a non-life threatening gunshot wound inside the residence. This unidentified victim was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and later transferred to a St. Louis area hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Carbondale Police officers are asking for anyone who was at the party or anyone with any information to contact them or call the Crime Stoppers line.
