O'Hare Airport to Post Signs in Chinese

Signs are going up in Chinese in the international terminal at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.

U.S. Sen. Mark S. Kirk says his office came up with the idea. He says there’s money to be made in making O’Hare friendly to travelers from China, because Chinese visitors are spenders, and investors: “Remember, the average Chinese visitor to the U.S. spends $750 a day. Making sure that we build that relationship with the potentially friendliest airport in North America to the Chinese visitor, then it’s a real chance for us to get corporate headquarters here in Illinois.”

Kirk says a staffer in his Washington office is working to avoid awkward translations. Kirk says he believes advertisers will likely cover the cost of the airport signs.
