The Carbondale Education Association and the negotiating team with Carbondale Elementary School District 95 are still at impasse.
The CEA represents 136 teachers, social workers and other licensed professionals in the district, which is comprised of Parrish, Thomas and Lewis elementary schools, as well as Carbondale Middle School. The union says it and the district met with a federal mediator Wednesday evening for about four and-a-half hours.
Both sides reportedly made counterproposals, but no progress was made in the negotiations.
Some of the sticking points include the cost of insurance rates and the amount of resources for classrooms.
The CEA's current contract expired on August 11th and negotiations have been underway since last year.
If no agreement is met, the CEA says it's prepared for a strike.
