New VA Clinic to Open in Carbondale

VA

In a few months veterans in the Carbondale area will have a new medical center.
A 10-thousand square foot outpatient clinic will open near highway 13 close to university mall and will serve about 4,000 veterans.  It will be staffed with doctors, nurses, and social workers. VA spokesperson Peggy Willoughby says the center will also have services for mental health: "We'll have a mental health care provider at that location as well as a social worker they work with vets on various issues depending on diagnosis we know returning vets from Iraq and Afghanistan most have problems with post traumatic stress syndrome and we know we need to have services available for."

The clinic is scheduled to open on September 15th and will be the 11th outpatient clinic in the region. The VA says its goal is to have services available for all veterans with 30 miles of where they live.
