Illinois officials have agreed to temporarily halt the movement of residents out of a southern Illinois institution for the developmentally disabled.
A federal judge asked the state to stop the transfers from Murray Developmental Center in Centralia until a hearing next week on a restraining order requested by residents' families.
Gov. Pat Quinn ordered the facility closed last year to save money. Parents of Murray residents sued to stop or delay the closure, saying residents wouldn't get the care they needed elsewhere.
The parents' attorney says she is pleased with Thursday's decision. Judy Sherwin would not speculate whether the move indicated anything about a potential court ruling on the closure itself.
The state has until Tuesday to file a response to the motion for a restraining order.
