A Murphysboro man has received a five-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to an indictment charging unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The U.S. attorney says 24-year-old Billy Jack Reed admitted to possessing a 9mm pistol even though he was prohibited from possessing a gun because of multiple prior felony convictions.
In handing down the sentence, a U.S. District Judge also took into consideration the gun was stolen and that Reed attempted to obstruct justice after his arrest by encouraging a witness to lie for him.
