The state's "Serve Illinois" program is highlighting volunteer opportunities in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
About 25 percent of Illinoisans volunteer their time to various causes...but Serve Illinois executive director Scott McFarland would like to see that number go even higher. He urges the public to get out and volunteer on Monday...and all year long.
He notes there's a database online of volunteer positions in your area.
Anyone interested in volunteering on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service can visit serve.illinois.gov to find more than 2,000 volunteer opportunities throughout Illinois and in bordering states.
Volunteers can search based on location or area of interest, as well as by web-based, ongoing, or one-time volunteer opportunities.
