Minova USA in Marion received some special recognition from the US department of Labor on Tuesday.
Minova’s Marion branch became the 40th business in the state to qualify for the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program by OSHA.
Safety, health, environmental and security advisor Bill Bolinger says Minova makes safety a top priority.
“We haven’t had a reportable injury in two years, so they make sure that they’re working safe and following all the safety rules that we have.”
The Marion plant makes steel rods for securing tunnels in mines.
OSHA offers small and medium businesses on site consultation to look for potential hazards in the workplace to prevent injuries.
Bolinger says the process takes about a year.
“They come in and do audits, they review your safety programs and they come back and do follow up visits and once you’ve taken care of all of the issues then your actually put into the program.”
This recognition means high hazard worksites like Minova works hard to ensure employees know they are safe.
“We got to make sure that these guys follow every safety rule and procedure to the tee and if they do then they won’t put their self in any danger while they’re out there working.”
