Wednesday the first marijuana dispensary opened in the city of Metropolis.
Thrive Metropolis is the fourth marijuana dispensary to open in southern Illinois.
Opening the Metropolis store added 30 jobs to the local economy, including 20 full time positions.
General Manager Rosie Naumovski says opening the fourth store means less travel time for customers in Massac County.
“We are guided by certain jurisdictions within the state of Illinois, so we looked a little bit about where the market was, Missouri’s market is coming on pretty quickly and we saw an area quite under served in the southern region.”
Naumovski says they call Thrive Metropolis their super dispensary because it’s a 6000 square foot store.
Thrive other dispensaries are located in Anna, Harrisburg and Mt. Vernon.
