WSIU Kicks Off National Summer Reading Day On June 20

Bryan Bennett Library, Salem, Illinois

Carbondale, Ill. -- Reporters, photographers, and camera crews are invited to cover the kickoff of WSIU Public Broadcasting's Summer 2014 Learning Program on National Summer Reading Day this Friday, June 20 from 10am-12pm at Bryan Bennett Public Library, 315 South Maple Street in Salem, Ill.

Activities will include a Martha Speaks story time featuring the PBS KIDS series of the same name, a PBS KIDS Raising Readers Theater performance of “Perfectly Martha”, Martha Speaks videos, and demonstrations of PBS KIDS apps and transmedia content on Kindle and iPad tablets. Children also will receive free books and PBS KIDS summer learning materials.

The National Summer Learning Association serves as a network hub for thousands of summer learning program providers and stakeholders across the country, providing tools, resources, and expertise to improve program quality, generate support, and increase youth access to and participation in summer learning programs.
