WSIU, SIU Summer Children's Film Series Launches This Week

First Event is Thursday, June 25 at C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library in Mt. Vernon, Ill.

Carbondale, Ill. -- Reporters, photographers, and camera crews are invited to cover free screenings of award-winning Prix Jeunesse International children's films at regional libraries this summer. The films are being shown as part of the summer library reading program, “Have Book, Will Travel”. The SIU College of Mass Communication and Media Arts, WSIU Public Broadcasting, the SIU Global Media Research Center, and the SIU Center for International Education are presenting the films in conjunction with regional libraries.

The first film screening will be held this Thursday, June 27 from 1:30-3pm at the C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Films to be featured are Chick Chick from Kenya Television Network in Nairobi and The Story of a Letter from China Central Television, China.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and interact with individuals from countries represented in the film, courtesy of the SIU Center for International Education. Special book titles representing countries featured also will be available to families.
