Carbondale, Ill.-- Reporters, camera crews, and photographers are invited to cover the second of five installments of WSIU Public Broadcasting's Community Cinema project, which features free monthly screenings and discussion of films from the PBS series Independent Lens.
The event will be held this Saturday, February 25 at 2:30pm at the Carbondale Public Library, 405 West Main, and will feature a screening of More Than A Month. This filmdocuments filmmaker Shukree Hassan Tilghman's efforts as he campaigns across the country to end Black History Month in favor of a more inclusive history curriculum in American schools.
Pat Mayberry from theNAACP-Carbondale Chapter and the African American Museum of Southern Illinois will lead a discussion after the screening along with Phillip Garcia. Phillip Garcia is a graduate student in Social Work at SIU Carbondale and a member of the Progressive Masculinity Mentors (PMM) group.
All Community Cinema film screenings will be held at the library on the last Saturday of every month at 2:30pm through May 2012. Each screening will feature a facilitator and guest speakers. The remaining Community Cinema schedule is as follows:
